America's Oldest Direct-to-Consumer Winery
Windsor Vineyards was founded by wine legend Rodney Strong in 1959, in Tiburon on San Francisco Bay. His Victorian cottage served as home, office and tasting room. In those early days, so many customers asked Strong to reserve their favorite wines that he started putting their names on the labels. One innovation followed another when he decided to ship direct to his customers, who bought the wines for personal use and for holiday gift ideas. Personalized wine labels and direct shipping caught on, and so was born the Windsor Vineyards tradition.
Windsor Vineyards grew quickly with its high quality wines, value prices and custom wine labels. Strong moved Windsor to Healdsburg in 1961 to be closer to his vineyard properties. He later established another winery, Rodney Strong Vineyards, in the same location.
As one of the oldest wineries in the country and the nation's first winery to ship direct to consumers, Windsor Vineyards is the earliest pioneer in creating ease of access for consumers nationwide who wish to enjoy a relationship directly with the wine producer. We have proudly served our customers via catalog, mailings and telephone for almost 50 years. Of course you can now find us on the web as well, and you can visit us in our Tiburon, California tasting room.

In 1989, the Klein family purchased Windsor Vineyards and placed great emphasis on investing in barrels, vineyards and technology, to continue Strong's goal of making some of California's finest wines. The efforts paid off, as Windsor has been among the top three most award-winning wineries in the U.S. This success attracted the attention of Australia's Mildara Blass, which purchased Windsor Vineyards in early 2000 and added it to its family of international wine holdings under the umbrella of Beringer Blass Wine Estates.
Windsor Vineyards Today
Most recently, in April of 2007, Windsor Vineyards was purchased by Vintner Patrick Roney, who also owns ultra-premium Girard Winery in Napa. Mr. Roney has continued Windsor's long consumer-friendly tradition with direct sales to consumers and businesses and personalized wine label opportunities (such as custom corporate logo labels, custom labels for wedding favors and holiday wine gift ideas). He is also launching a new era for Windsor as he develops his newly-acquired 40-acre estate vineyard property located in the Russian River Valley in Healdsburg. He has also introduced a new line of ultra-premium wines to complement Windsor Vineyards' classic offerings, under the Windsor Sonoma Winery brand name.
